Lake Deborah Salt

Lake Deborah is an ancient natural salt lake in remote Western Australia. The lake was formed over five million years ago when the world was free from modern pollutants. It remains free of contaminants due to its isolated location, about 450 kilometres from the city of Perth and 250 kilometres from Kalgoorlie.

The prehistoric salt deposits lie dormant all year until the arrival of winter rains. The fresh rainwater gently dissolves the lake’s crust and draws a natural brine to the surface. When this evaporates under the summer sun to form white salt crystals, it is carefully collected with minimal impact on the lake. The methods used follow similar principles to organic farming.

Conscious of minimising the impact on the environment, a low carbon footprint is maintained throughout, using solar energy and minimising transport and processing.

Lake Deborah is a regenerating resource. The salt is naturally white and has vital trace elements such as magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium. Unlike other salts, Lake Salt has no detectable levels of heavy metals and is not affected by the ocean’s microplastic pollution.
